Vantage Point September 2010 Welcome to the September edition of Vantage Point, your newsletter from Vantage IT Solutions. It's been a busy few months for Vantage IT. We have increased in size and we are working on some great new services that we will be introducing soon. We’re extremely keen to launch them because we know they will be such a huge benefit to our customers. More details will be given in the coming months. In addition, a new web site is being built and we hope to be able to introduce you to it later this year. 
Two New Additions to the Team at Vantage IT
You may have already met or talked with James, our new recruit. He joined us in June and has impressed everyone with his knowledge, enthusiasm and sense of humour. As I’m sure you will find out, he’s a very friendly young man who genuinely does enjoy helping people. James is a welcome addition to the team as Vantage IT continues to grow. When you need to contact us for support or assistance, please feel free to ask for James and find out what a friendly chap he is. The second new recruit is Alfie, who has been brought in to offer advice on sleep. He can be seen here in one of his calmer moments as he contemplates his new role. Unfortunately Alfie hasn’t quite mastered email so if you want more information about him, do contact Steve Monaghan who will be happy to reply on Alfie's behalf. A Small Tip on Data Security Many people know that when old computers are disposed of, the hard drives should be securely wiped or destroyed to prevent access to the drives' data. However, not many people appreciate that some copiers and printers contain hard drives. If you’ve got a large printer or photocopier in your office, there is a good chance it has a hard drive installed. These hard drives often contain print jobs and photocopies that can be recovered. CBS News in the USA carried out an investigation where they purchased four used copiers from sources that included the police and an insurance company. The data recovered was quite an eye opener. It included detailed domestic violence complaints, a list of wanted sex offenders, targets in a major drug raid, $40,000 in copied cheques and 300 pages of individual medical records. This really does highlight how easy it is for confidential data to get into the wrong hands.
