Most web sites are now designed with the assumption that computers are set to display a high number of colours. Also, the resolution of the monitor is presumed to be at least 1024x768 dpi.
When the number of colours is low, images may be unclear. Also, if the resolution is less than 1024x768, you may need to use the scroll bars more frequently to see the entire page.
Both these settings can normally be changed. Provided the PC and monitor can support the changes, the following instructions may be helpful. The instructions are suitable for Windows 95, 98, NT and XP.
Do ensure your monitor and PC can support the changes before continuing.
At the normal Windows desktop, click the secondary (normally right-hand) mouse button, then select Properties from the menu that appears.
Click on the Settings tab, and you will see a window similar to the following:
If the settings for Color Quality and Screen Resolution exceed those shown above then no further changes are required and you can click on Cancel.
In the Color Quality box, select at least Medium (16 bit) (or High Color (16 bit)) from the drop-down list.
In the Screen Resolution area box, move the slider up to at least 1024x768 pixels.
Click on OK and the display will change. If either setting is not to your liking, just follow the instructions above and reverse the change.
